Yes you could use the USB connection. Just pop in a small power bank that is connected both to the charging and discharging port. That will mean that the removal of the main-battery will keep the anti-theft and tracking active fo a while.
If you look here it seems like the power board/distribution board is only powered on when a battery is inserted. So lights and motor etc. cannot be switched on if the battery is not inserted.

So the PWR plug seems like it need 12V. So I might need two power banks in series or maybe see if I can open the omni and see if I can locate some 5V stuff?
